The materials

Solid wood, glass, mats: the material makes the frame

Quality framing starts with materials chosen without compromise, and the craftsmanship to work them — all on site in our Brussels workshop.

Solid wood mouldings in fine wood species

Solid wood: a matter of sensitivity and strength

Your artwork deserves a solid wood frame. Our mouldings are planed and made on site, to the millimetre — a craft that has become rare in Belgium, unique in Brussels, allowing perfect proportions and profiles no catalogue can offer.

Our European wood species — walnut, maple, oak, lime, ash — are sustainably sourced: these forests are managed, and the wood is not intensively logged. And for special pieces, we also work with exotic woods such as wengé or afrormosia.

These mouldings dress our custom frames and our float frames, and also serve as floating frames for Dibond-mounted prints.

Wooden frame with museum glass protection

The glass: a matter of transparency

The choice of glass is decisive for how the work is perceived — and for its conservation. We'll help you choose between:

  • Standard glass — essential protection, at the best price
  • Anti-reflective glass — for brightly lit spaces
  • UV-filtering museum glass — comes in several grades: depending on the glass chosen, it filters from most to all UV light (up to 100%). Essential for watercolours and works on paper, the standard for museums and collectors
  • Anti-reflective museum glass — protection plus total transparency that gives the work volume and depth
Digital cutting of a conservation mat

The mat (or mount): digitally cut, conservation guaranteed

Our digital cutting machine produces perfect bevels, multiple windows and special shapes impossible by hand, in acid-free, white-core conservation board that will never yellow or damage your artwork.

We also cut individual mats for artists and photographers who mount their works themselves.

Standard frames: a fine presentation on a budget. For non-profits, students and artists looking for a polished presentation at a reduced price, the workshop offers a selection of standard frames in several finishes and formats. Ask us for the list or come and see them at the workshop.

Common questions about frames and glass

What is museum glass and when should I choose it?

It is a treated, almost invisible glass (less than 1% reflection). Museum glass comes in several grades: depending on the glass chosen, it filters from most to all UV light (up to 100%). Choose it for valuable works, pieces exposed to light, or simply when you want to forget there is glass at all. It is the most expensive option. We will tell you which one suits your work.

Why does a conservation mat matter?

An acid-free, white-core mat never yellows and never damages the artwork. For works on paper — watercolours, drawings, prints — it is the difference between a piece that lasts decades and one that stains.

How large a frame can you make?

We make frames and float frames up to 160 × 270 cm. Our mouldings are planed and made on site, to the millimetre.
