Frequently asked questions
Everything we get asked, with real answers
35 years of client questions, and our straight answers.
How much does custom framing cost in Brussels?
Since every frame is made to measure, the price depends on the dimensions, the moulding, the glass, the mounting and the quantity. There is no standard rate — there is the right price for your project. That is why we provide a free, precise, no-obligation quote: send us a photo of the work and its dimensions. With every quote we propose several finishes to match your budget, at workshop prices, plus a range of standard frames for non-profits, students and artists.
How long does it take to have a painting or photograph framed?
The usual lead time at Atelier Bernard Weber is about 10 days. Last-minute rush jobs remain possible. A frame to add to tomorrow's exhibition? It can be done. For exhibitions we plan the deadline together: in over 35 years, the workshop has never missed an opening.
Dibond or aluminium: which is the best substrate for mounting?
Aluminium is the most durable on every count: it is our recommendation for maximum quality (prints we mounted on aluminium in 1990 haven't budged). Dibond is very stable and of very good quality, but more fragile than aluminium during handling. As for Forex and Kapa, we do not recommend them: they are unstable materials, however cheap.
Do you make float frames in Brussels?
Yes — it is one of our most requested finishes. The float frame is made to measure in our Etterbeek joinery, in every wood species and every tint, including very large exhibition formats. It suits contemporary canvases as well as Dibond-mounted prints, which we set directly into the frame.
Dibond or classic framing for a photograph?
Mounting on aluminium or Dibond gives a contemporary presentation — no frame, no glass, perfectly flat. It is the most common choice of photographers and galleries for exhibition prints. Classic framing (mat + glass) better protects valuable prints and suits more traditional interiors. The two can be combined: a Dibond can be set in a float frame.
What is museum glass and when should I choose it?
It is a treated, almost invisible glass (less than 1% reflection). Museum glass comes in several grades: depending on the glass chosen, it filters from most to all UV light (up to 100%). Choose it for valuable works, pieces exposed to light, or simply when you want to forget there is glass. It is the most expensive option. We will tell you which one suits your work.
Do I need an appointment to visit the workshop?
Yes, we work by appointment Tuesday to Friday (10:30 – 17:00, open through lunch). That is what allows us to give you proper advice with your artwork in front of us. A call or an email is all it takes: +32 473 65 03 89 / bernardweber452@gmail.com.
Where is the workshop, and is there parking?
Rue de l'Orient 61, 1040 Etterbeek (Brussels), in the La Chasse district — 10 minutes from the European quarter. By public transport: STIB lines 34 and 81, stop about 200 metres away. By car it is a quiet street where parking is easy. Park in front of the carriage entrance — it's free. Bernard, in his work clothes, will give you his warmest welcome!
What kinds of works do you frame?
Everything that can be framed: photographs (our speciality), paintings and canvases, drawings, watercolours, etchings and lithographs, posters, diplomas and textiles. On the mounting side: photographic prints on aluminium and Dibond. From the affordable standard frame to the exceptional solid wood frame, from standard glass to UV-filtering museum glass, every choice is guided by the work.
Do you frame large formats and textiles?
Yes. Atelier Bernard Weber makes frames and float frames up to 160 × 270 cm and mounts prints up to 150 × 250 cm. We also frame textiles, such as embroidery and fabrics. Send us a photo of the piece: we will tell you what is possible.
Can I bring in an already-framed work to change the frame or the glass?
Of course. Broken glass, a yellowed mat, a damaged or simply dated frame: we dismantle, check the condition of the work and remount it by the book — in conservation quality if the work deserves it.
Do you work with private clients or only professionals?
Both. The workshop made its name with photographers and galleries, but private clients are just as welcome — for a work of art or a child's drawing. Do you draw without exhibiting? You're as welcome here as any gallery. The same care, honest workshop prices, and budget-friendly standard frames for non-profits and students.
Do you print photographs?
No. Atelier Bernard Weber does not print: you bring your print, or have it delivered to the workshop, and we mount it on aluminium or Dibond.
Do you deliver framed works?
Yes. Atelier Bernard Weber offers delivery, collection and installation at the client's premises, carried out by an external carrier.
Which payment methods do you accept?
Atelier Bernard Weber accepts payment by bank card, by bank transfer or on collection of the work.
Is the workshop accessible without steps?
Yes. Atelier Bernard Weber has step-free access, through a carriage entrance, at Rue de l'Orient 61 in Etterbeek.
